Privacy Policy
Effective date: April 15, 2026
Retirement Modeler (retirement-modeler.com) is operated by Sideband Labs in Missouri, USA. This policy explains what we collect when you use the site. Questions: use our contact form.
The short version
- Your calculator inputs stay in your browser. Retirement Modeler is a static site — the math runs on your device, and we do not have a server that stores what you type.
- No accounts, no email signup, no payment information, no ads, no advertising cookies, no tracking pixels.
- We use one analytics tool (PostHog) to understand how the calculator is used. It does not set cookies on your device and does not build a profile of you.
Information we collect
Analytics events (via PostHog). When you use the site, we record anonymous events — page views, when you first interact with a field, which calculator features you use, how long your visit lasted, and the inputs and results of each scenario you calculate.
Before any financial inputs are sent to analytics, we round and bucket them. For example, ages are grouped by decade ("30–39"), current savings is grouped into ranges ("$250k–$500k") and rounded to the nearest $25,000, and monthly spending is rounded to the nearest $500. The point is that no single record can be tied back to a specific person.
PostHog is configured to store nothing on your device (no cookies, no localStorage) and to never create a user profile. Analytics data is processed on PostHog's EU servers. PostHog also records anonymized reconstructions of page interactions (session recordings) so we can diagnose usability issues; because no names, emails, or account information are ever entered into the site, these recordings contain no personally identifying content.
Hosting. The site is hosted by Vercel. Vercel sees standard request information (IP address, user agent, requested URL) as a normal part of serving any website. We do not use Vercel's analytics product.
Disclaimer acknowledgment. We store one key in your browser's sessionStorage (retirement-modeler-disclaimer-accepted) so we do not show you the "not financial advice" modal more than once per session. It is cleared when you close the tab, contains no personal data, and is not a cookie.
Contact form submissions. If you use the contact form, your message — and the reply address you provide, if any — is captured as a PostHog analytics event (Contact Submitted) so we can read and respond to it. Please keep the content of your message to what is needed for your request, and avoid including sensitive personal information.
Shareable links
The calculator lets you copy a URL that encodes your inputs so you can bookmark or share a scenario. Anyone with that link can see the inputs. Treat Retirement Modeler links like any URL that contains personal information.
What we do not do
We do not sell your information, share it for cross-context advertising, or use it for any purpose other than operating the site. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Do Not Track
Your browser may let you send a "Do Not Track" signal. Because web standards have not settled on a consistent meaning for this signal, we do not currently respond to it — but the analytics configuration described above already avoids cross-site tracking regardless.
Your requests
If you want to ask what data is associated with your use of the site, or ask us to exclude your future sessions from analytics, use our contact form. Because we do not identify individuals, "deletion" in practice means excluding your IP or session from future processing rather than locating a named record.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and note the change on the site for a reasonable period. Continued use of the site after the effective date means you accept the updated policy.
